SME & Sierra College Offer Zero Waste Event to Uncover Savings at NCIM on July 21
Rocklin, CA (PRWEB) July 09, 2014 -- Get Started with Zero Waste to Cut Costs is the topic of the Sacramento Valley Chapter of Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) meeting, on July 21 from 6-8 PM at Northern California Injection Molding, Inc. (NCIM), 2691 Mercantile Dr., Rancho Cordova.

Through a partnership with the Sierra College Center for Applied Competitive Technologies (CACT), attendees will participate in a trash audit and discuss the benefits of moving toward Zero Waste. SME Sacramento Valley president-elect, Jeff Briggs, explained that SME hopes the event will encourage manufacturers to look in their full trash containers and identify ways their companies can save money. “At this meeting, we will teach you how to analyze your own trash and evaluate the contamination in your recycling bins,” said Briggs. “This can show you how many valuable recyclables are still being thrown away. By recovering those recyclables, you can lower your waste bill.”
According to Carol Pepper-Kittredge, CACT Director, Sierra College is working to train and prepare businesses to become certified in Zero Waste. “With the SME partnership, we can make more businesses aware of the potential cost savings and how to become certified,” said Pepper-Kittredge. “At the SME meeting, Zero Waste Business experts, Gary Liss and Sue Beets, will facilitate the trash audit and describe how companies have benefited from establishing Zero Waste programs.”
