Pet Supermarket, the nation's largest independently owned pet specialty store with more than 100 stores nationwide, opened the doors to its largest store on Saturday.

I'm extremely proud of the growth we've seen. The expansion can be attributed to the hard-working team of employees here who love Pet Supermarket. This new store in Miramar is quite a sight, and I hope everyone in the area has the opportunity to see it in person.

Pet Supermarket's newest store is located at:

One of the main aspects that is different with this store, versus other stores, is the size. This new store is over 11,000 square feet, with tall 24' high ceilings. Most Pet Supermarket stores vary in size between 6,000 and 8,000 square feet. This larger size will allow the store to carry roughly twice as much merchandise as a standard store.

The second aspect that is different with this store is the overall appearance of the store. The entire store has custom flooring that looks like wood, grass, water or rocks, depending on the department the customer is in. The reptile department has a huge mural on the wall giving the impression of being in a desert. The fish department has mermaids that appear to be floating above the fish in a sea of water. The dog food department has an area dedicated to natural foods with old-fashioned barrels holding product. And the store is surrounded by giant light boxes that bring the store alive with images of people and their pets. The store has even been formally entered in a number of national retail design competitions.

Pet Supermarket began as Pet Circus over thirty years ago in South Florida and was owned and managed by Charles West, who still owns the chain today. West states, "I'm extremely proud of the growth we've seen. The expansion can be attributed to the hard-working team of employees here who love Pet Supermarket. This new store in Miramar is quite a sight, and I hope everyone in the area has the opportunity to see it in person."

Diane Holtz, President and COO, adds, "Our mission for continued growth has been simple: to do all we can to improve the health, welfare and happiness of our customers' pets. We also pride ourselves on superior customer service, knowledgeable associates and low prices. This mix, along with our established relationships with vendors and suppliers, have all helped us grow. I am especially proud of this new store. We've been able to transform some ideas we've had over the years into reality, to make a completely unique shopping experience for our customers."

Steve Feinberg, Vice President, who has been with the company almost thirty years states, "It's an exciting time for us. We've opened stores in Tennessee, Alabama, California and Ohio, but this store was right in our back yard. We felt it would be a good opportunity to develop some of our new retail strategies, and we look forward to this being a strong store for us for years."

Pet Supermarket is headquartered in Sunrise, Florida. Each conveniently located store offers more than 8,000 pet products at competitive prices. Pet Supermarket employees pride themselves on customer service, knowledge and concern for pets. Their motto is: "At Pet Supermarket you can have a healthier pet for less."
