Akron, OH (Vocus) October 19, 2010
Two weeks after demystifying Wi-Fi® at the second annual Medical Device Connectivity Conference, Summit Data Communications launched a Medical Wi-Fi Webinar Series. The series began on October 12 with an exploration of two hot Wi-Fi topics – 802.11n and operating at 5 GHz – and continues next Tuesday with a look at Wi-Fi mobility in a hospital.
“Our webinars hit a sweet spot for the medical community,” said Chris Bolinger, VP of Sales and Marketing at Summit. “Providers, integrators, device makers, and others are hungry for expert advice on optimizing the use of Wi-Fi in hospitals. Feedback on the first webinar indicates that we are providing valuable information that is beneficial to everyone from Wi-Fi novices to seasoned Wi-Fi veterans.”
In hospitals, the role of Wi-Fi is expanding from patient and guest use to patient care applications and electronic medical records. Computers on wheels and handheld computers interact regularly with Wi-Fi networks, and medical devices are making the transition from proprietary private networks to enterprise Wi-Fi networks.
Even though Wi-Fi technology is standards-based, Wi-Fi deployments at hospitals present complexities and challenges that are not immediately apparent. To make effective use of Wi-Fi for the heterogeneous mix of devices in a hospital, you need to understand how Wi-Fi works.
“Our white papers provide in-depth treatments of hot Wi-Fi topics,” said Bolinger, “but not everyone has time to read a white paper. In 30 or 40 minutes, a webinar provides the essential information that you need on a subject such as Wi-Fi security and HIPAA or Cisco Compatible Extensions for medical devices. And you can ask questions of the Wi-Fi experts at Summit.”
Webinars, which are free, are held every other Tuesday at 11 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time, which is 5 p.m. in Central Europe.
