Superstars Writing Seminar Features Four of the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest Judges Who are Themselves Paying It Forward
Colorado Springs, CO (PRWEB) February 06, 2014 -- Superstars Writing Seminar - Thursday the 6th through Saturday the 8th of February at the Antlers Hilton in Colorado Springs will see six New York Times bestselling authors get together and deliver a seminar on the business of writing and how to conduct yourself as a professional author.
The Superstars Writing Seminar, founded in 2010, is focused on teaching writers the business of being successful in the publishing industry. The instructors are chosen from the top of the industry and include International Bestselling Authors, Top Editors, Indie Publishing Platform Managers. The only focus at Superstars is to teach you how to have a successful writing career by sharing how those at the top of the industry manage their careers.
The seminar itself was conceived by the group of bestselling authors and inspired by the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future contest and workshop, now in its 30th year. Mr. Hubbard was certain that new writers needed help and invited several of his friends; Algis Budrys, Frank Herbert, C.L. Moore and Andre Norton to help him judge winners for a contest for new writers that also mentored them and then published their winning works in an annual anthology. As the contest gathered steam and attracted more and more famous authors to its ranks, it also started generating its own well-known authors from its winning ranks as the years rolled on. Two such writers, both New York Times bestselling authors; David Farland an Eric Flint were both winners in the early years of the Writers of the Future contest. Kevin J. Anderson also entered in the early years and salutes the contest for giving him that all-important deadline to meet while entering when he was starting out. Kevin now invites his friends and colleges to join him in his efforts to help pay it forward with this seminar and they promote that their attendees enter the Writers of the Future contest as well.
The Superstars seminar is now in its 5th year and going strong. Besides the advice of the New York Times bestselling authors there are specialists speaking on various topics including: copyright attorney Scott Boone will be talking about copyright law, editor Diana Gill (from Harper Collins) will talk on changes in traditional publishing, Mark Lefebvre from Kobo will talk about electronic publishing, indie author Terry Odell from will talk about how to create audio books for ACX, audible.com's indie audiobook imprint. Jeff Brazell (marketing guru) will talk about the latest research on reading trends and publishing trends. Editor Lisa Magnum (Deseret Book) will talk about trends in YA books and they also have a panel by successful self-publishers, with tips on what they are doing.
Now in its 30th year, the Writers of the Future Contest began in 1983 and attracts entries worldwide in science fiction and fantasy. Twelve quarterly winners receive prize monies and, along with selected finalists, are published in an annual anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future (Galaxy Press). The book is sold in bookstores and at Amazon.com and gives the winners the exposure that they need.
Inspired by multiple New York Times best-selling author L. Ron Hubbard, the merit-based Writers of the Future Contest was initiated by him to discover and encourage talented beginning writers of science fiction and fantasy, and thus launch careers.
The idea has proved very successful.
