HONG KONG, April 26, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Hong Kong-based advanced materials innovator, Surwon Technology is reportedly mulling the sale of its intellectual property (IP) stake in its recently-developed graphene-infused concrete compound according to a source at the company who spoke on condition of anonymity
If the report is accurate and the firm publishes its extensive data on the raft of tests it has conducted, it is likely that there would be considerable interest in acquiring the rights to the IP tied up in the revolutionary compound which has been rated as being twice as strong and three times more resistant to water ingress than conventional construction grade concrete.
Bo Kung, Chief Technology Officer at Surwon Technology would neither confirm nor deny that the company is considering disposal of the IP but he said the results of extensive testing would be published later on this year.
"There are so many possibilities with this material but the stumbling block for some industry sectors is the cost of producing the various compounds we've been working on in large quantities," said Kung. "We encountered this with the road tire project but our graphene-enhanced concrete compound is enough of an improvement over standard concrete to justify the investment in large-scale production."
Asked if the company would ever consider selling off its IP, he explained, "Surwon is not a construction company; it no more has the resources or infrastructure in place to produce large quantities of concrete than it does to produce large numbers of tires [alluding to the company's graphene rubber compound project]. We innovate and collaborate but if an offer was suitably substantial, I'd imagine the company's principals would consider such matters very carefully."
