The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals Responds to Changing Consumer Behavior With New Energy Efficiency Certificate Course
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) September 19, 2013 -- The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) has responded to consumer demand for energy efficient swimming pools, hot tubs and spas by creating the ANSI/ICC Energy Efficiency Certificate (EEC) Course.
The EEC, which will debut at the 2013 International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo, being held Nov. 9-14 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev., is a comprehensive, one-day course designed to help industry professionals design, install and pass inspection on consumer-friendly, energy-efficient pools and spas.
According to APSP market research conducted by the Harrison Group, a fourth of potential buyers are concerned a pool would be too expensive to maintain. Another 17 percent believe a pool uses too much energy and will increase their electric bill. The APSP leveraged this research with the EEC, a course that helps professionals understand the current energy efficiency requirements for pools and spas, as outlined in the ANSI/APSP/ICC-15 2011 Standard for Residential Swimming Pool and Spa Energy Efficiency, and provides them with the knowledge and expertise to save consumers money. The ANSI/APSP/ICC-15 Standard has already been adopted by Florida, as well as other jurisdictions around the country as part of the International Swimming Pool & Spa Code.
“Consumers want pools and spas, but they also want peace of mind that they can affordably maintain them,” said APSP Director of Professional Development Michael Reed. “To be competitive in this slow-growth economy, pool and spa contractors have to meet the demands of the market and completing the ANSI/ICC Energy Efficiency Certificate Course demonstrates that you understand consumers’ concerns and needs.”
The ECC will be held on Monday, Nov. 11 from 8 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. Upon completion, attendees will receive a certificate and 8.0 technical credit hours of APSP continuing education. Steve Barnes, Safety and Compliance Manager at Pentair Aquatic Systems, will serve as instructor.
