The CCAR ‘Recovery Coach Academy’©: The Most Sought After Peer Recovery Training Program in the Country
HARTFORD, CT (PRWEB) June 11, 2014 -- The CCAR Recovery Coach Academy© was conceived in 2008 in response to the needs of volunteers in CCAR Recovery Community Centers. They asked for additional training to better handle the variety of scenarios and situations generated from recoverees who frequented the centers. Now in its 6th year, the Academy has emerged internationally as the original and leading recovery offering of its kind. CCAR’s Recovery Coach Academy© is an innovative new approach to healing people's lives that is unlike any other training. It offers participants the once-in-a-lifetime experience to gain new knowledge, be challenged and reap valuable rewards, providing the essential learning, tools, and resources needed to become an effective recovery coach.
“Since its inception, the CCAR Recovery Coach Academy© has run over 400 times and has trained more than 5,000 recovery coaches. Over 400 people representing 36 states have participated in the Training of Trainers Program. To our knowledge, no other recovery coach curriculum claims a similar level of activity. This program and its effectiveness is also being hailed as a national training model across the country,” said Phil Valentine, Executive Director of CCAR. CCAR’s innovative approach to recovery support services and recovery training has been extremely successful in providing participants the tools that they need to become effective coaches in their respective communities. Beginning in June 2014, CCAR is offering three opportunities over the summer months to participate in the Recovery Coach Academy©. CCAR Executive Director Phil Valentine and Social Worker Arthur Woodard, both highly respected trainers, will be leading the 5-day academy that has been designed like a retreat with a learning community atmosphere, so each participant comes away with not only the necessary skills, but fully empowered and motivated. Additionally the program offers trainees strategies to enhance effective communication, motivation, recovery wellness planning, cultural competency and recovery ethics. What is a recovery coach? The Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) defines a Recovery Coach as anyone interested in promoting recovery by removing barriers and obstacles to recovery and serving as a personal guide and mentor for people in recovery. Recovery Coaching is primarily delivered as a peer-based recovery support defined as a process of giving and receiving non-professional, non-clinical assistance to achieve long-term recovery from alcohol and other addictions. This support is provided by people who are experientially credentialed to assist others in initiating recovery, maintaining recovery, and enhancing the quality of personal and family life in long-term recovery.
