The First Tee of Greater Austin Announces Deane Beman, Twenty-Year Commissioner of the PGA TOUR, as Keynote Speaker for the 6th Annual 9 Core Values Luncheon
Austin, Texas (PRWEB) February 03, 2014 -- The First Tee of Greater Austin and BB&T (Branch Banking and Trust), presenting sponsor of this year’s 9 Core Values Awards Luncheon, announced today that Deane Beman, 20-year commissioner of the PGA TOUR will serve as keynote speaker. Additionally, for the first time, The First Tee of Greater Austin and BB&T are seeking community nominations for outstanding Greater Austinites that represent the core value of Responsibility.

The 9 Core Values Awards are presented to those who exemplify The First Tee Life Skills Curriculum. Each year, an independent review committee selects nine honorees that exemplify the organization’s 9 Core Values in addition to The Robert W. Hughes Philanthropic Leadership Award. However, for the first time, the organizations’ are seeking community recognition of leaders that represent the Core Value of Responsibility. This year’s selected honorees are:

About the Call for Nominations
Community nominations of Greater Austinites that signify the core value of Responsibility are being accepted through 5 p.m. CT on Friday, February 14, 2014 and entries can be submitted on The First Tee of Greater Austin’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/firstteeaustin) and website (http://www.thefirstteeaustin.org/club/scripts/library/view_document.asp?CLNK=1&GRP=20968&pg=GE&NS=GE&DID=145346&APP=80). Community members throughout Greater Austin are encouraged to nominate a person that has demonstrated Responsibility and has made a difference in their community. The winner and the nominator will be invited to attend The First Tee’s 6th Annual 9 Core Values Awards Luncheon, presented by BB&T, where all recipients will be recognized.
About the Program and 9 Core Values Awards Luncheon
Since its founding in 1999, The First Tee of Greater Austin has grown from a single after-school program with thirteen kids to a recognized youth development organization that will serve over 9,600 youth this year through a year round after-school & Saturday classes; winter, spring & summer break camps, along with an in-school program at select elementary and middle schools along with a few specialty programs that include; the City of Austin Parks & Recreation Program, LPGA-USGA Girls Golf, Foundation Tour, Interclub and the Youth Forum.
Most importantly, kids who participate in The First Tee program see improvement in their grades and are more likely to stay in school. Research shows that 98% of students who participate in The First Tee for at least two years graduate high school, showing a positive community impact.
The First Tee of Greater Austin's independent review committee will review all submissions and select the nominee that best represents the core value of Responsibility. The award recipient and nominator will be invited to join us at the 6th Annual 9 Core Values Awards Luncheon on March 4th, 2014. The First Tee of Greater Austin's review committee will fact check submissions and conduct due diligence to ensure that the nominee truly represents the values of The First Tee of Greater Austin and BB&T. Award winners will be featured in publicity materials on behalf of The First Tee of Greater Austin, including but not limited to marketing materials, website content and media outreach. The recipient must be in attendance at the luncheon to be eligible to receive the award.
