The Impact of the Trump Administration’s Environmental Policies on the Chesapeake Bay—How do Maryland Leaders Plan to Respond?

Annapolis, MD (PRWEB) September 20, 2017 -- Chesapeake BaySavers, an Annapolis-based environmental nonprofit organization, announces the governmental panel for its second annual Environmental Legislative Summit. Presented by Chesapeake BaySavers and hosted by the University of Baltimore School of Law, this year’s summit will explore the 2018 legislative session’s key environmental priorities, as well as insights on how state laws and government policy makers can protect Maryland’s investment in the Chesapeake Bay. The summit will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. in the University of Baltimore School of Law’s Moot Court Room.

Maryland’s top governmental officials representing the panel include:

  • Jeanne Haddaway-Riccio, Deputy Chief of Staff for Governor Hogan
  • Del. Kumar Barve, Chair, Environment and Transportation Committee
  • Sen. Joan Carter Conway, Chair, Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee
  • Del. Steve Lafferty, Environment and Transportation Committee
  • Lee Currey, Director, MDE Water and Science Administration

The panel will be moderated by Bay Journal staff writer, Rona Kobell.

“The White House has proposed a plan to drastically slash the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) budget next year. Maryland taxpayers have invested enormous sums of money to restore and protect oyster reefs, reduce polluted runoff and improve water quality. The progress made by those efforts is in jeopardy." said Evan Thalenberg, founder and president of the Chesapeake BaySavers. “It's important to bring together those affected by these decisions with our governmental policy makers to discuss how we can safeguard our Chesapeake Bay."
