Research from the Post Office reveals that one-third put Christmas presents at risk by travelling without travel insurance during festive period

The Post Office is reminding people to remember to take out travel insurance - even for travel within the UK. The reminder comes after Post Office Travel Insurance research revealed that during the festive break, one-third of people travelled in the UK without travel insurance, despite the fact that festive travellers took more than £2.2bn worth of gifts with them.

Worryingly, the Post Office Travel Insurance findings also showed that one in 10 people travelling abroad don't consider taking out travel insurance cover - at any time of year.

The research revealed that the average value of Post Office Travel Insurance claims for lost, stolen or damaged items peaked at £275 for losses during the Christmas period - a rise of 30 per cent compared to values of typical travel insurance claims.

Whatever the time of year and whether travelling in the UK or abroad, travel insurance should be considered essential in case of any loss, damage or theft of luggage. Post Office Travel Insurance is reminding travellers to ensure that their existing travel insurance policies are up to date and offer adequate cover for the contents of suitcases and bags.
