Travelmatch.co.uk has officially launched a new travel search engine - the new system allows clients to search for holidays based on their requirements rather than the usual criteria such as destination, date, cost and period of stay. Travelmatch.co.uk has been in development since 2006; the venture has backing from Lastminute.com founder Brent Hoberman and other prominent investors including David Scowsill, former Opodo Chief Executive, and John Moulton, founder of Better Capital.
The revamped site seeks to break the mould of destination based holiday searches. Visitors to the site can use temperature, food, drink, children’s facilities and many other variables to find the appropriate destination. Alex Francis of Travelmatch comments: “According to research, 70% of holidaymakers decide what they want to do on their trips away before they figure out where they want to go. We wanted to develop a system which catered to this and allowed our clients to take what they knew, input it into a search engine and be provided with excellent results.”
Travelmatch.co.uk also includes videos, pictures, blogs, links to social networks and TripAdvisor reviews. According to Francis the focus is to provide customers with everything they need to find the perfect holiday. He concludes: “With the backing of great investors and industry leaders like Brent Hoberman, we have been able to develop a system which provides everything clients need. They can input their requirements to ensure their destination has all the necessary amenities and then access a wide variety of information like reviews and pictures before making their final decision. We believe this makes booking a holiday easy and above all ensures that our customers get exactly what they want out of their trips.”
Travelmatch is a new travel discovery engine that helps inspire customers by matching their requirements to a wide range of holidays, hotels, flights, cruises, villas or city breaks. Unlike other travel sites, customers are not required to choose a destination, date or budget before they can begin searching. Customers are able to make informed decisions by exploring photos, user reviews, maps, events and activities and other fun things relevant to their chosen travel product. Travelmatch, which closed its first funding round in 2010, is based in Notting Hill, London.
