Uber, Airbus To Explain How DFW Could Be Hub For Flying Cars
Fort Worth, Texas (PRWEB) September 06, 2017 -- Leaders of two revolutionary efforts to transform vertical flight in major cities around the world – Uber’s Elevate and Airbus’ Voom – will share their aviation successes at the Rotorcraft Business & Technology Summit here next month.
The Rotorcraft Business & Technology Summit is hosted by Rotor & Wing International, the business resource for rotorcraft management worldwide. The event, Rotor & Wing International’s third annual summit, will be held Sept. 20 and 21 at the Omni Fort Worth Hotel. For more information, visit http://www.rotorcraftsummit.com.
Keynoting the event on Sept. 20 is Uber Technologies Inc.’s director of aviation, Mark Moore, who will present the ridesharing giant’s Elevate initiative. Uber has launched a bold transportation vision to provide an alternative to ground transportation gridlock for large cities, with plans to do so in Dallas beginning in 2020. Elevate plans to develop a new market ecosystem that will bring about a new generation of electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing aircraft. Immediately following the Uber presentation, Moore and a panel of experts from Bell Helicopter and other Uber partners will be taking questions during the evening’s reception.
The Sept. 21 keynote focuses on Airbus’ vision for urban mobility and its new Voom subsidiary. Voom CEO Uma Subramanian will detail that on-demand helicopter service’s recent success in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and its plans to expand across North America and Latin America.
Leonardo Helicopters, headquartered in Milan, Italy, is sending an experimental test pilot to update attendees on its AW609 civil tiltrotor, which was developed in part here and in Arlington, Texas.
“The Rotorcraft Business & Technology Summit is the venue for exploring the frontier where advanced technologies meet day-to-day commercial and military helicopter operations and examining the promise of entrepreneurship, passion and vision to transform vertical flight here and around the world," said the Summit’s host, Rotor & Wing International Editor-in-Chief James T. McKenna.
The day-and-a-half Rotorcraft Business & Technology Summit will provide attendees the opportunity to hear firsthand from the vertical-flight manufacturers and operators who are pushing the bounds of technology. In addition to urban mobility, subject matter experts from industry, aviation regulators and vertical-flight researchers will speak on areas including advanced uses of data to improve helicopter safety and efficiency analysis, the growing use of drones and commercial businesses and research and development of advanced vertical-flight capabilities.
Speakers include regulators and researchers from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the U.S. Army and national and international businesses. In addition to Uber, Airbus, Bell and Leonardo Helicopters, those businesses include BNSF Railway; Irving, Texas-headquartered CHC; Dallas-based SevenBar Aviation; Truth Data of Fort Worth; Metro Aviation of Shreveport, Louisiana; and Fairfax, Virginia-based Helicopter Safety Alliance.
Associations with representatives speaking at the summit include the Airborne Law Enforcement Association (ALEA), the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), American Helicopter Society International (AHS) and HeliOffshore
