Skills, qualifications and commitment are being called upon all over Great Britain, as the nation rallies for the 30th Olympiad.
Hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism come together to benefit from a fund set up by the government and added to by a number of companies in the hospitality and tourism sector with the stated intention of creating 50,000 Olympic jobs in the UK.
Announcing the news this morning, prestige executive employment consultancy UK Knack Group said national tourism agency Visit Britain had already committed 50 million pounds of taxpayer-funded money to the cause.
UK Knack Group confirmed that BA, DFDS, Last minute dot com, P&O and the Radisson hotel group have already pledged both cash and contra to help match the target figure.
UK Knack Group’s managing director said, “This is a fund that will boost tourism around attractions such as the forthcoming Royal Wedding, Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games.”
People First has called on everyone in the hospitality industry to hone his skills, to provide good service and make all foreigners feel welcome.
Chief Executive Officer Brian Wisdom has said, “It's anticipated that half a million visitors will arrive for the Games, and we need to ensure that their experience of Britain is a very positive one.
“We plan to do something about what everyone recognises is a real need. The hospitality, leisure, tourism and travel sectors are some of the UK's largest employers and foreign tourists contribute more than 8% of our gross domestic product. If we reach our target of 200,000 people fully trained and competent in hospitality skills, it will make a real difference to the experience people have as well as the revenue that’s generated.”
UK Knack reported that this programme was used successfully at the Vancouver winter Olympics, where it was used to train 39,000 volunteers and tourism staff.
