VF Corporation Partners with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro
Greensboro, NC (PRWEB) February 20, 2014 -- Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro (Habitat Greensboro) today announced that it will begin the first new house start of 2014 at 1643 Sunrise Valley Drive, Greensboro. The house is sponsored by VF Corporation (VF).
The kickoff event is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, from 11 a.m. to noon at 1643 Sunrise Valley Drive, Greensboro. Maria Hanlin, CEO of Habitat Greensboro will preside over the ceremony. Speakers will include Eric Wiseman, VF chairman and CEO and Bob Shearer, VF senior vice president and CFO. Executive Sponsors for the Habitat house, Scott Deitz, vice president, corporate relations and Christopher Williams, vice president jeanswear strategy will participate in the wall raising. Cynethia Mock, the new homeowner, and her children will be present.
VF and Habitat Greensboro have a long history of working together to build affordable housing for Greensboro families. VF headquarters and the Wrangler® and Lee® brand associates teamed up with Habitat Greensboro to build houses in 2006, 2009 and 2011. With this kickoff event, VF will begin sponsorship of its fourth house.

New homeowner Cynethia Mock is thrilled to be working with Habitat and VF to provide a safe, healthy home for her family. Cynethia was born Honolulu, Hawaii, and moved to Greensboro when she was four years old. She has a degree in Accounting and is currently employed at Bank of America.

Habitat Greensboro was formed in 1987 by four Christians in response to their Habitat experience in Peru. Twenty-five years later, Habitat Greensboro has expanded to almost 5,000 volunteers and 30 staff who build, renovate and provide critical repairs to 30 to 35 homes each year, serving 420 families in Greensboro and 400 internationally.
How the Habitat Model Works
Habitat for Humanity partners with families who have steady employment for one year, participate in a thorough credit analysis, attend educational classes on budgeting and home repair and contribute 300 hours of sweat equity. Homeowners purchase their homes from Habitat at no-profit and with interest-free financing. Habitat then serves as the mortgage lender providing life of the loan 0% financing and loan servicing to Habitat homeowners.
