WAO International Scientific Conference (WISC 2014) Will Focus on Integrated Care for the Allergy Patient
Milwaukee, Wisconsin (PRWEB) November 13, 2014 -- More than 1600 attendees in allergy and immunology will gather in Rio de Janeiro from 6 to 9 December 2014 for a special theme-based conference hosted by the World Allergy Organization (WAO) and the Brazilian Association of Allergy and Immunology (ASBAI). The scientific program will feature 160 or more of the world’s leading experts on the theory and practice of allergy, asthma and immunology and will emphasize the need for a more integrated approach to diagnosis, disease management, and prevention.
It is now more commonly known through published scientific studies that the global burden of respiratory and skin allergies is rising. Allergic rhinitis affects between 10 and 30 percent of the worldwide population. The World Health Organization estimates that 235 million people around the world currently suffer from asthma, which is the most common noncommunicable disease among children. Food allergy in infancy and childhood is an increasing concern.
“The burden of allergic diseases is strongest in children, as sensitization rates to one or more common allergens are rapidly increasing around the world,” said Dr Lanny Rosenwasser, President of the World Allergy Organization. “The conference this year is a timely opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and best practices related to understanding the underlying causes of complex allergic diseases and using integrated strategies for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.”
In conjunction with the XLI Annual Meeting of the ASBAI (Congresso Anual da Associação Brasileira de Alergia e Imunologia), WISC 2014 is organized around the theme of “Advancing the Borders of Allergy: From Treatment to Prevention by Targeting the Environment, Infections and the Susceptible Patient.”
Keynote lectures and plenaries will share new insights in disease pathogenesis, innate immunity, the role of the microbiome, immunotherapy, biological therapeutics and novel treatments as well as a full discussion of scientific and clinical knowledge of food allergy and future needs. The program will offer 3 keynote lectures, 6 plenaries, 23 postgraduate sessions, 27 symposia, and 12 junior member sessions.
