Weblight specialist lighting solutions achieves Gold status as a ‘top 20’ Recolight collection point in the UK
Ware, Hertfordshire (PRWEB UK) 15 April 2014 -- Weblight has been awarded Gold status by Recolight for being one of the top 20 collection points for recycled lamps in the UK.
Weblight is a registered carrier of waste and is accredited by Recolight, the industry producer scheme for lamps, to handle all lamps removed from the premises of Weblight clients on their behalf. This means that all Weblight clients automatically meet all the obligations of the WEEE Directive. All end of life lamps and fluorescent tubes will be subjected to reclamation process enabling the reclaimed materials to be recycled.
Weblight has been at the forefront of encouraging the recycling of spent lamps since well before the introduction of the WEEE directive. The company introduced free recycling as part of its contracts several years before the requirement became mandatory and has continued to ensure the highest standards of treatment and recovery of spent lamps on behalf of its clients.
Provisional 2013 recycling figures released to WEEE schemes by the Environment Agency in February show the UK lamp recycling rate increased from 39.5% in 2012 to 52.8% in 2013. The UK luminaire rate has also improved from 0.6% in 2012 to 2% in 2013, but it is known that a much great proportion of luminaires are reprocessed via commercial recovery of the component parts, rather than through the specific WEEW channels as a result of the significant commercial value of the raw materials contained in luminaires.
Commenting on the news, Recolight Chief Executive Nigel Harvey said, ‘We are very pleased by the strong growth in lamp recycling figures. This is the UK’s best lamp recycling rate ever. The recast of the WEEE directive includes a national target for all WEEE categories of 45% by 2016 and 65% by 2019. The UK data shows that the lighting industry is well placed to meet these targets. It is particularly pleasing to note the strong year on year growth since 2008, when the rate stood at 23.2%. The Recolight collection network now includes 2300 sites, and has made a major contribution to the growth.’
