Wilmington Health Pulmonary and Allergy Now an Alpha-1 Foundation Clinical Resource Center
Winston-Salem and Wilmington, NC (PRWEB) August 31, 2013 -- PMG Research, Inc. announced today that Wilmington, NC partner Wilmington Health Pulmonary and Allergy is now an Alpha-1 Foundation Clinical Resource Center. A Clinical Resource Center (CRC) is one of more than 70 centers throughout North America that specialize in patient care and education for those with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1). Wilmington Health Pulmonary and Allergy is one of the select CRCs that also performs Alpha-1 research.
At a CRC, Alphas can see a physician familiar with Alpha-1 and get answers about their condition. They can also find out more about how Alpha-1 affects their families and learn about the testing choices available to family members. Each center must meet certain criteria in order to be listed as a CRC through the Foundation.
Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1) is a genetic condition that can affect individuals of all ages. It can result in serious lung and/or liver disease. Alpha-1 affects all populations and ethnic groups. According to the Alpha-1 Foundation, one in every 2,500 Americans has Alpha-1.
