"Our Loss is Their Gain" Community Donation Program at The Woodlands Fit Body Boot Camp

Fit Body Boot Camp is always doing things to give back to the community and help out, so I thought it was a wonderful idea to collect all our clothes that didn’t fit and give them to charity. Now I have room in my closet for new clothes in smaller sizes.

Fit Body Boot Camp Franchise Owner Shanna Layne, owner of The Woodlands Fit Body Boot Camp and Fit Body Boot Camp Spring, noticed that one of her clients was holding up her workout pants as she was put through the paces of her morning workout. The Woodlands personal trainer says that is when a light went off in her head and inspired her to create the new “Our Loss is Their Gain” program to help neighbors in need.

“As I watched one of our clients struggling to hold up her workout pants while she did jumping jacks, I realized that if our clients’ workout clothes weren’t fitting anymore, their regular clothes didn’t fit, either,” says Layne. “That’s when it hit me that we could turn our clients’ weight loss success into a way to help even more people.”

Shanna has long been an advocate and supporter of programs that help local women and children in need and she knew that there were local women who could benefit from donated clothing that her clients could no longer wear.

“I talked to my staff at the fitness boot camps and to our clients and said, ‘Let’s collect all of the clothes that no longer fit and donate them to the Montgomery County Women’s Center’s Resale Shop.’”

The resale shop, “Something Special”, provides good-quality used clothing to the community while also raising funds to help local women and their children. Layne feels that helping the organization is a natural extension of what she and her staff do for their clients at the boot camps.

“We help our clients to get stronger and live healthier, more joyful lives,” says Layne. “The Women’s Center does essentially the same thing. I think it’s fitting that we help our clients lose 20, 30 or 40 pounds and use their hard work and success to help someone else at the same time.”

Layne also feels that helping local women in need is a great way for her clients to celebrate their progress. “One thing that we often suggest is going out to buy some new, smaller clothes. Now they can make that reward even more meaningful; as they buy smaller clothes they can pass old clothes on to an organization that needs them.”

To date, the clients participating in “Our Loss is Their Gain” have lost a total of 442 pounds and Layne, who has been a strong advocate of getting the community healthy and in shape, says that her clients are excited about using their weight loss success to help other women in the area.

Shanna, her FBBC team, and her clients will celebrate the “Our Loss is Their Gain” by dropping off all the clothing to Montgomery County Women’s Resale Shop on Tuesday, April 30, 2013.

“I was super excited when my clothes started getting looser and looser from working out at The Woodlands Fit Body Boot Camp,” said a client of The Woodlands Fit Body Boot Camp. “Fit Body Boot Camp is always doing things to give back to the community and help out, so I thought it was a wonderful idea to collect all our clothes that didn’t fit and give them to charity. Now I have room in my closet for new clothes in smaller sizes!”
