1000Bulbs.com Carries Industry’s First Dual AFCI/GFCI Outlet

Dual AFCI/GFCI outlet protects against shock and electrical fire.

Replacing just the first receptacle provides AFCI and GFCI protection against electrical fire and shock to all downstream outlets and plugged in devices.

1000Bulbs.com now carries the new Leviton SmartlockPro® Dual Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacle, the first dual AFCI/GFCI outlet on the market. The receptacle provides protection against electrical shock due to ground faults and electrical fires caused by arc faults. As a ground fault interrupter (GFCI), it detects when less current is flowing back to the outlet than is flowing out. It is also an arc fault interrupter (AFCI) and disconnects electricity when current arcs outside the conductor due to damaged or faulty wiring. The SmartlockPro Dual Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacle, available at 1000Bulbs.com, is a National Electrical Code® (NEC®) compliant option for areas requiring AFCI and or GFCI protection.

“We are in the business of providing the most up-to-date electrical hardware and technology,” states Kim Pedersen, CEO of 1000Bulbs.com, “This new product will not only allow our customers to maintain a NEC-compliant home, regardless of the home’s age, but it also provides them and their loved ones with peace of mind.”

Protection is required in some rooms for new construction and remodels or extensions which require adding or replacing existing receptacles. Receptacles can be added at the box or the first outlet on a run to protect all downstream outlets and plugged in devices. AFCI protection is required in bedrooms, closets, dens, dining rooms, dormitories, family rooms, hallways, kitchens, laundry rooms, libraries, living rooms, offices, recreational rooms, and sun rooms. GFCI protection is required in bathrooms, garages, kitchens, living rooms, near pools, porches, and all other outdoor outlets.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), over 50% of electrical fires in the U.S. each year could be prevented with the installation of arc-fault circuit interrupt (AFCI) devices. Nearly half of all house fires start in the kitchen and 24% of fire related deaths happen in bedrooms according to a study by the National Fire Protection Association. Even though protection is not required in older homes, starting by upgrading just the first outlet in these rooms is an inexpensive way to protect homes, pets, and family members.

Test and reset buttons on the face of the receptacle offers convenience for monthly testing and device reset in the event of a tripped circuit. The SmartlockPro Dual Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacle uses patented technology that prevents the receptacle from being reset if not functioning properly. 1000Bulbs.com carries both the Tamper Resistant 15-Amp and 20-Amp models.
