101 Mobility Austin “The DME Company with a Heart”
Austin, TX (PRWEB) July 17, 2014 -- Debra Dowden, co-owner of 101 Mobility Austin, found herself presented with a special opportunity to install a patient lift for a deserving community member. Debra’s business, a local provider of mobility solutions such as wheelchair ramps, patient lifts, and vertical lifts, was recently approached by Erin Kiltz for the special project. Through her community involvement, Erin and her family became close with a special young woman in need of a quality patient lift.
Brookwood Community was created by Erin, whose daughter was born with cerebral palsy. Her family witnessed firsthand what can happen to a person living with a disability as they mature into adulthood. Currently, state funding lasts until an individual reaches 20 years of age. After that time, it is often difficult for many people to support themselves. Erin wanted to help, so she founded Brookwood Community, an organization to help young adults develop special skillsets, giving them the ability to support themselves when they reach adulthood.
When Erin and her family decided to help out their neighbor and donate the lift’s motor, she contacted 101 Mobility Austin about their line of patient lifts. “Her willingness to give inspired me,” said Debra Dowden. 101 Mobility Austin not only agreed to take on the project, they also agreed to donate the labor costs as well as the overhead rail for the Romedic ceiling patient lift. The young woman can now move from her bedroom into her bathroom safely and unassisted. “It was a pleasure knowing she’ll be able to fully enjoy her home now,” said Debra.
The team of 101 Mobility Austin had a wonderful experience working with Brookwood Community and hopes to work with them again. As for Erin, she was overjoyed with the collaboration and even called 101 Mobility Austin “The DME Company with a heart!”
