Global-Ready Designation for Teachers, Schools and Districts
Chapel Hill, N.C. (PRWEB) December 24, 2013 -- VIF International Education, the leading provider of global education programs for K-12 schools, announced Tuesday that its Global Schools Network will provide Global-Ready designation for teachers, schools and districts that demonstrate proficiency in and a commitment to global education.
The Global Schools Network, established in 2011 to connect leaders and advocates of international education, strives to ensure that all students are prepared to compete, collaborate and communicate in a global society. This process begins with teacher preparation that must be supported at the school and district level in order to have the greatest impact.
Global Gateway, an integrated online system for teacher professional development, is a turnkey solution for any education institution to achieve global competency and transform student outcomes.
Global competence indicators developed by curriculum experts at VIF are at the heart of the Global Gateway system. These student indicators provide grade-level frameworks for integrating global awareness into classroom practices, and aim to help leaders establish a learning environment in which teachers and students develop deep cultural knowledge and explore the ways culture influences identities and worldviews.
“Global education, for too long, has been reserved for the lucky few. Global Gateway provides a solution to the scale challenges that have restricted access for decades. Now, global awareness and competence is the new baseline and everyone can take part,” said David Young, CEO at VIF.
The Global Gateway system integrates teacher professional development, an engaging community of educators and a robust classroom resource library containing thousands of expert- and teacher-created lessons. These lessons, available in English, Spanish and Mandarin, are rooted in project-based learning and are aligned to Common Core and other national standards. Global Gateway covers all subjects and levels to provide any K-12 teacher a pathway to Global-Ready designation.
Teachers earn Global-Ready designation upon completion of 40 hours of professional development that includes the creation of at least four global project-based lessons and submission of evidence that proves classroom implementation. This designation, represented by a portable badging credential, signifies their ability to integrate global instruction and problem-based learning in the classroom.
Global-Ready schools and districts earn their designations by developing and implementing global education plans that address student achievement and teacher professional development. These forward-thinking institutions offer globally infused curriculum for their students and support advanced certification for teachers.
