After recovering extremely quickly from two off-season knee surgeries, Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder returned to the floor Sunday evening to help lead his team to a 103-96 win over the Phoenix Suns. Wilson was out after tearing the lateral meniscus in his right knee in the NBA playoffs last year.

While other players, in all sports, may return slow and steady from injuries like his, Westbrook has done the exact opposite. He came back fast and in his same old form, being aggressive and scoring driven. It took six months to return to the court, but Westbrook decided to go full out as he scored 21 points in just 33 minutes the Thunder’s win. Not only did he come back strong and powerful, but he came back three weeks earlier than expected. Westbrook laughed at the timetable given to him, and returned to play when he knew he was ready. Westbrook knew and admitted Sunday evening was not his best display of performance, as he made only 2 of 18 from the 3-point range. As the season continues, Westbrook will surely continue to excel and get back to the top of his game.

Although the season has just begun, things in the Atlanta division of the Eastern conference are getting weird this season, as the Philadelphia 76ers are on top of the standings, with three wins as of Sunday night. While some may say it is just the beginning, and the first three games do not mean any more than any other three in the season, the stats say otherwise. Since the NBA expanded to 30 teams in 2004, 44 of 3-0 teams won their first three games. Those 44 teams won almost 60 percent of their games, and 81.8 percent of them have made the playoffs. The 76ers have so far this year beat the Miami Heat, Washington Capitals, and Chicago Bulls. Two of those games the 76ers were the underdog by a long shot. So are the 76ers for real? Or is this just an odd happening?

The 76ers were pegged to be one of the worst teams in the NBA this preseason, but continue to stun the basketball world with their wins. Rookie Michael Carter-Williams is having a great rookie start, and continues to help lead his team to victory. The loss the 76ers handed the Heat helped them drop to a losing record, for only the second time since the Big Three have come together. They have since regained their .500 record with a win against the Washington Capitals. If the 76ers continue to play this way, the Heat may have some extra brutal competition this year.
