DrugNews Update: MDL Court for Byetta Lawsuits Issues Latest Figures
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 23, 2013 -- The diabetes drug resource center at DrugNews.net is announcing updated information for patients taking the medication Byetta. A federal multidistrict litigation court recently created to handle lawsuits alleging the drug caused pancreatic cancer has issued the latest update on case numbers*.
DrugNews offers the latest information on recalls, safety alerts, research and litigation news to those patients taking popular prescription drugs. Visitors can see if others are experiencing similar side effects and decide if they need legal advice.
Byetta is a popular injectable-type medication sold by Bristol-Myers Squibb, which is prescribed to those with type-II diabetes to lower blood sugar levels**.
The resource center has added warnings about a possible Byetta link to cancer. A 2011 study from UCLA suggested the drug could increase the risk of pancreatic cancer and thyroid cancer***. This year, the Journal for the American Medical Association also advised that drugs like Byetta can double the risk of pancreatitis, a major risk factor for pancreatic cancer****.
DrugNews recently added a study by the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, finding that, of 1,069 diabetes drug pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, thyroid cancer or hypersensitivity cases reported to the FDA in 2012, 612 were linked to Byetta*****.
Now, with a growing number of patients alleging Byetta or a similar drug caused cancer, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation has consolidated cases to a special multidistrict litigation federal court. (In Re: Incretin-Based Therapies Products Liability Litigation, MDL 2452, Southern District of California).
Latest court records show 60 people have already filed a Byetta lawsuit or similar action relating to Januvia, Janumet or Victoza*.
Anyone affected by cancer after taking Byetta is encouraged to visit the DrugNews center or speak with a lawyer about their legal options. However, DrugNews only recommends lawyers who have already handled these complex Byetta lawsuits.
