Racine, WI (PRWEB) July 15, 2013 -- The City of Racine Wisconsin will play host to more than 2,000 professional and age group athletes who will take part in the 2013 Ironman 70.3 Racine Triathlon on Sunday, July 21, 2013. A professional field consisting of some of the sport’s top contenders will vie for the title.
“Racine is very proud and honored to host an international event like the Ironman 70.3 Triathlon,” said Kari Dawson, Real Racine Events Director, and Volunteer Director, Ironman 70.3 Racine. “This event serves as a wonderful showcase for Racine County's natural beauty and offers runners an opportunity to compete in some of the best outdoor spaces in the country.”
One of more than 40 events in the Ironman 70.3 global series, Ironman 70.3 Racine will take athletes on a 1.2-mile swim along North Beach in Lake Michigan, a 56-mile bike through the countryside of Racine County and a 13.1-mile run on a course that features a tour of Racine Zoo and the beautiful Lake Michigan coastline. The event is among the top Racine Events in 2013.
The sold-out event will see athletes ranging in age from 18 to 69 years old and representing more than 35 states and eight countries, with nearly 400 participants from the state of Wisconsin.
Outdoor enthusiasts annually flock to Racine to enjoy the numerous parks and trails along the Root River. The Root, which winds through the city of Racine, is popular for fishing, hiking, canoeing and kayaking. North Beach is a Certified Blue Wave clean beach and named in USA TODAY "51 Great American Beaches" in 2012.
The Ironman 70.3 Racine Triathlon is among the many things to do in Racine WI this summer.
