Florida Mediator Sandra Upchurch to Chair Florida Bar 2014 Convention in Orlando
Orlando, Fla. (PRWEB) October 09, 2013 -- Sandra Upchurch, mediation counsel for the Florida- and Alabama-based Upchurch Watson White & Max Mediation Group, will chair The Florida Bar Annual Convention from June 25 to 28, 2014, at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Orlando.
"I asked Sandy to serve as the chairperson for the annual convention because of her energy and focus. Not only will she get the job done, but also she will do so with enthusiasm and creativity," said Eugene K. Pettis, bar president. "Under Sandy's leadership, our 2014 annual convention is going to have some components that we have never seen before but that are likely to be duplicated long into the future.”
Mr. Pettis has chosen "Embracing Connectivity" as the convention theme, and Ms. Upchurch expanded on that concept. "I view the annual convention as a chance to connect with my colleagues, connect with my family and learn methods to better connect with my clients and my profession," she said. "I hope every member of The Florida Bar will take a serious look at the enhanced CLE opportunities that are coming next summer and briefly unplug from practice in order to plug into the technological advancements changing our profession."
Three CLE (Continuing Legal Education) tracks will be offered: one for new lawyers entering the field, a second focused on striking a family/work balance and a third emphasizing technological developments related to the legal profession. "There will be two presidential showcase offerings; one will be Vision 2016, and the other will be determined and selected at a later date," Ms. Upchurch explained.
As she and the convention committee -- composed of more than 25 lawyers from throughout the state, including Vice Chairman Sean Desmond of Tallahassee -- begin fleshing out event details, expectations are running high.
"All the partners at Upchurch Watson White & Max are proud Sandy was selected as the chairperson for the 2014 Annual Convention of The Florida Bar. We were not surprised, however," said Rodney Max, a principal of the mediation group. "Sandy has a ‘can do’ spirit that is infectious, and you will see it in play next summer in Orlando.
