On October 10, Peterson’s made it easy for prospective students to find more than 10 billion dollars in scholarship awards. The new Peterson’s Scholarship Database, located at showcases more than 1.5 million scholarships, grants, fellowships, prizes and forgivable loans available for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate study.

To mark the launch of the new Scholarship Database, Peterson’s announced a $5,000 scholarship giveaway to help make college more affordable for one lucky person. College and graduate school bound students can enter for a chance to win the scholarship at the Scholarship Database website,

No registration is required for students to enter the scholarship giveaway or search the Peterson’s Scholarship Database, which houses a unique data set collected by the Peterson’s research team. Unlike most scholarship search tools that present only a limited number of scholarships based on proprietary matching systems, the Peterson’s Scholarship Database shows all scholarships available and allows students to filter based on more than 20 data points to identify the scholarships they want to pursue.

“With the cost of college rising year after year at a rate significantly greater than that of inflation, we want to help students regain some control by providing holistic, usable information about scholarship options,” said Dani Botterbusch, director of Peterson’s Products.

The Peterson’s Scholarship Database contains extensive information about sources of financial assistance not affiliated with institutions of higher learning for full-time and part-time study at universities, two-year and four-year colleges, trade schools and technical schools. For each award in the database, the following information is included:

  •     Award name, description and sponsor
  •     Sponsoring organization’s name and description
  •     Type of award (scholarship, prize, fellowship, grants or forgivable loan)
  •     Eligibility and application requirements
  •     Application deadlines
  •     Dollar value per applicant and number of awards available
  •     Total dollar value and number of awards distributed prior year
  •     Contact information for application and award inquiries

“Increased transparency is badly needed within the higher education industry,” explained Todd Eicher, executive director of Nelnet Enrollment Solutions, the division of Nelnet — Peterson’s parent company — that houses Peterson’s. “Offering a scholarship database that lists every award available [versus a matching service] is a huge win for students because it provides more opportunities to find and obtain valuable financial assistance that can dramatically lower the cost of education.”

Peterson’s has provided education content for more than 40 years. Offering all the information and tools needed to find, get in and pay for school, has become the first source students turn to when starting their college selection.
