YumvY today announced the release of Cook with YumvY for Windows Phone 8, the company’s first native mobile app. YumvY’s technology platform, designed to help people unleash their inner chef, also supports tablets and laptops. While a lot of cooking sites and apps focus on content, YumvY is the first to tackle the cooking experience by walking users through the process step-by-step while they are cooking in the kitchen.
“Eight years ago, I put a computer in my kitchen,” says YumvY founder Sari Louis. “I quickly realized that while there were lots of great recipes available online, they didn’t help me prepare a great meal. Frankly, I needed help. As a young man, I had not learned to cook before I went out on my own, and wasn’t very good at it. Going out to eat every night gets expensive, and eating too much fast food leaves you feeling unwell. I knew there had to be a better way—a better lifestyle.”
Louis chose to release native apps for the new Windows platform—first Windows 8 and now Windows Phone 8—because Microsoft’s new design language makes the content pop by reducing the clutter in the user Interface. “YumvY’s goal is to make the cooking process as easy and transparent as possible,” sates Louis. “The new Windows UI was a great fit in that regard.”
Users can download the YumvY Cooking Companion app for Windows 8, the Cook with YumvY app for Windows Phone 8, or go to http://www.yumvy.com to use on their tablet or laptop. The YumvY app and service are free. More than 75,000 people have subscribed to YumvY’s Cooking Companion to-date.
