Genetic ID Launches Digital PCR, a Highly Sensitive Testing Technology
Fairfield, IA (PRWEB) October 01, 2013 -- Genetic ID NA, Inc., the global leader in GMO identification, announces addition of a new highly sensitive testing technology, Digital PCR, to their portfolio of DNA-based testing technologies.
GMO quantification is often necessary in order to meet contract specifications, government regulations, or program requirements. The current industry standard for GMO testing, Real-Time PCR, is sometimes unable to quantify GMO content in highly processed or multi-ingredient products. “Digital PCR is more robust than Real-Time PCR and can often provide a quantifiable GMO result for these types of products,” says Heather Secrist, PhD, CEO of Genetic ID NA, Inc. “For those customers who don’t have access to the input from which the product was produced, this additional technology can be extremely helpful in allowing entry of their product into the desired market.”
Genetic ID NA, Inc. has been ISO/IEC 17025 accredited since 2000 and was the first commercial laboratory in North America to offer PCR-based analysis of GMOs in food and agricultural products. The company expanded their scope of accreditation in June when The American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) granted ISO 17025 accreditation for Digital PCR. Genetic ID is the first A2LA-accredited laboratory to receive accreditation for this technology. “We continue to identify and apply emerging technologies that can successfully address the needs of the marketplace,” says Dr. Secrist, “and we’re pleased to be able to offer this as an accredited service.”
Since 1996, Genetic ID has provided the food and agricultural industries molecular biology and microbiology based testing in the areas of:
• GMO detection
• Animal and plant species detection
• Food pathogen detection
• Food authenticity testing
Services are available worldwide through Genetic ID’s Global Laboratory Alliance®, a growing network of expert laboratories that provide uniform standards of excellence in testing and contract research.
