Columbia Southern University (CSU), one of the nation’s top online universities, recently partnered with Gulf Shores (Ala.) Fire and Rescue to produce public service announcements for national Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 6-12, and Fire Prevention Month.
Sponsored by the National Fire Prevention Association, Fire Prevention Week’s goal is to educate and assist citizens, particularly children, in learning the basics of fire safety and planning. This year’s theme is preventing kitchen fires which the PSAs address.
In promoting this theme and fire safety, CSU teamed with Gulf Shores Fire and Rescue to create public service announcements to help educate the public. TV stations can air the PSAs in support of this valuable safety message. The two PSAs, one 30-second and one 1-minute video, feature Gulf Shores fire department’s public information officer Billy D. Hayes offering tips on preventing kitchen fires.
“We ask TV stations nationwide to support us in spreading the word on preventing kitchen fires,” said Hayes. “Statistics show two out of every five home fires start in the kitchen and cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries. These PSAs are our effort to help educate the public so we can prevent more home fires and injuries, especially since residential fires are the leading cause of civilian deaths.”
The 30-second video targets Fire Prevention Week and the 1-minute video can be used during all of October, which is Fire Prevention Month. To download the PSAs, visit https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qe5ces3pvgmd3r8/LelkGNQAEN (click on PSA choice, then click "dots" at bottom right corner of screen to download). Specifications can be adjusted if needed for TV stations’ formats.
CSU offers online associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs in various fields such as fire science, fire administration, occupational safety and health, criminal justice and business administration.
