Monotype Studio Type Director Akira Kobayashi will present on how typeface design can enhance human-machine interface (HMI) ergonomics to produce user interfaces that align with consumer expectations. Akira will take the audience for a visual ride through famous world landmarks, demonstrating how optimizing typeface design can enhance automotive user interfaces and influence customer HMI satisfaction.

Highlights of the presentation include:

  •     Demonstration of how Latin typefaces are used and how Latin alphabet readers read texts;
  •     Exploration of reading signage from landmarks across the Latin-language community, mainly European countries
  •     Insights into how legibility can be applied to developing an easy-to-use HMI for European, Asian and Arabic designers
  •     Which typeface features enhance legibility for Asian characters and Arabic numerals
