Big Brothers Big Sisters Helps Calgary Businesses Capitalize on SROI
Calgary, AB (PRWEB) October 01, 2013 -- With the launch of the Adopt-A-Match Campaign your investment of $1800 ensures the presence of a mentor in a young person’s life for one year and could result in $32,400 in social return on investment for your community.
A recent Boston Consulting Group (BCG) study revealed that donors can expect an $18 dollar return for every $1 invested in Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS).The research compared the life outcomes of 500 former Little Brothers and Little Sisters with a control group of individuals from similar family and economic backgrounds who did not have mentorship from a Big Brother or Big Sister. The study focused on four categories of life outcomes: employment, philanthropy, life skills and general well-being.
James Tucker, a partner in Toronto at BCG, who led the research project, presented his findings at the BBBS Calgary and Area Mentoring Breakfast hosted earlier this morning.
“The BBBS Social Return on Investment Study audited the financial return to society from Big Brothers Big Sisters and showed very compelling numbers,” said Tucker. “It takes the hard work of dedicated ‘feet on the ground’ to realize this impact and it’s organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area who make that happen here.”
The average investment required to mentor a Little Brother or Little Sister over the duration of the match is $5059. As a not-for-profit, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area rely on the generosity of ‘Bigs’ to volunteer their time and the community to donate funds to ensure Calgary’s youth can get the mentoring they deserve. The BCG study confirms that every dollar invested is put to great use.
“For every $1800 we receive in donations, we’re able to generate at least $32,400 in value back to the community and up to $41,400 with more disadvantaged participants,” says Sharon Moore, Executive Director Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area. “That is why the Adopt-A-Match campaign is so critical to Calgary businesses. This provides them a vehicle to not only give back, but to invest in the future of the thriving community they continue to operate.”
The Adopt-A-Match campaign, which launched today, gives corporations and local businesses the opportunity to adopt one or more Big/Little matches which pairs a mentor with a local youth. With the average duration of a match lasting longer than two years, every donation dollar counts.
