ISO Standards Update: The Heat is On; Bogota to Host ISO 14001 Working Group Meeting
(PRWEB UK) 2 October 2013 -- With ISO 14001, the global environmental management system standard, currently going through a revision process, next week’s working group - WG5 - meeting in Bogota, Columbia signifies that ISO 14001 is at an important crossroads in its evolution.
TC 207/SC1 WG5 is responsible for the final development of the next version of ISO 14001. It is the role of the committee members to gather feedback from a wide range of stakeholders, interpret that feedback and then propose a way forward.
“There was a lot of talk post the last technical meeting in Botswana in June about the perceived ‘lack of advancement’ but in reality, there was a great deal of progress. As a consequence, there is a real focus on what needs to happen next,” said David Lawson – LRQA Technical Director. With the business world and media alike waiting for ISO 14001 Committee Draft 2 (CD2), Lawson commented, “I have no doubt that TC 207/SC1 WG5 will be focused on gaining consensus on the key issues to allow the development of CD2 - a key stage of the revision process for ISO 14001."
The incorporation of Annex SL (common text and structure) was one of the main areas of discussion in Botswana, and LRQA anticipates that this too will also be a key area of attention during the working group meetings. Steve Williams – LRQA Deputy Technical Director will be attending the meetings in Bogota – which starts on 6th October. Steve will also be representing the Independent International Organisation for Certification (IIOC) at the meetings (LRQA Managing Director Mike James is Chair of the IIOC).
