Delta Delta Delta Announces Annual Fat Talk Free® Week: Fraternity Seeks to Promote Positive Body Image
Arlington, TX (PRWEB) October 07, 2013 -- Delta Delta Delta Fraternity and The Center for Living, Learning & Leading are pleased to announce the sixth annual Fat Talk Free® Week Oct. 21-25, 2013. Fat Talk Free® Week is an international, 5-day body activism campaign to draw attention to body image issues and the damaging impact of the “thin ideal” on women in society. This annual public awareness effort was born from Tri Delta’s signature body image programs and initiatives including Reflections: Body Image Program® and BodyImage3D®. Body image is not a sorority issue, but a women’s issue, and as a women’s organization Tri Delta is eager to raise awareness.
Fat Talk describes any statement that reinforces the thin-ideal standard of beauty and contributes to women’s and men’s dissatisfaction with their bodies. The purpose of Fat Talk Free® Week is to educate others about the damaging impact of pursuing the thin ideal and the use of fat talk on women of all ages. Fat Talk Free® Week seeks to change the way we think and feel about our bodies and to promote a healthy lifestyle that urges individuals to live a balanced life in mind, body and spirit.
Tri Delta is pleased to partner with Operation Beautiful, the official sponsor of Fat Talk Free® Week 2013. Operation Beautiful inspires body image awareness and a fat talk free lifestyle by encouraging its participants to simply post anonymous notes in public places.
Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, will be Operation Beautiful Day during Fat Talk Free® Week. Participants are encouraged to leave positive, encouraging affirmations in a public place to inspire others. For more information about Operation Beautiful, visit OperationBeautiful.com.
The Center for Living, Learning & Leading President Kimberlee Sullivan, Pepperdine, says, “Fat Talk Free® Week is one of the many initiatives that The Center provides to not only Tri Delta members but to women in general, as a way to raise awareness about body image issues in our society.”
