Stephen Horvath Joins Greenberg Traurig’s London Office
LONDON (PRWEB) October 01, 2013 -- Internationally acclaimed corporate attorney Stephen J. Horvath III has joined the London office of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP as a shareholder in the firm’s Corporate & Securities Practice.
Horvath previously served as head of Dewey & LeBoeuf’s European Mergers & Acquisitions practice and a member of its European Council. He was ultimately one of two partners that remained with that firm to wind down its affairs.
“We are excited to have Steve's broad experience in complex cross-border transactions across many European jurisdictions to add strength and further depth to our London office corporate team. His proven ability to work with collaborative teams of lawyers from multiple offices and specialties will be well suited to delivering the kind of services clients are seeking from a modern global law firm.” said Paul Maher, Co-Chairman of the firm's Global Mergers & Acquisitions Group and Chairman of Greenberg Traurig Maher LLP in London (GTM).
Horvath’s practice includes advising on mergers and acquisitions, corporate and project finance, privatization and commercial transactions. He is best known for several ground-breaking acquisition, finance and privatization transactions in the emerging markets of Central and Eastern Europe. Horvath built and led award-winning teams responsible for these transactions.
“Stephen’s experience and leadership position in the European corporate arena furthers our commitment to bringing high-quality legal services and value to our clients in an ever-changing global marketplace,” said Richard A. Rosenbaum, Chief Executive Officer of Greenberg Traurig.
"I look forward to getting back to the active practice of law with old friends and new colleagues in a firm built to deliver what clients want in a new world," said Horvath.
At Dewey, Horvath worked closely with that firm’s office in Warsaw, Poland, which was acquired by Greenberg Traurig in 2012. For example, most recently he advised Raiffeisen Bank International AG on the €490 million acquisition of a 70% share in Polbank EFG, the Polish banking business of the Greek bank EFG Eurobank. The transaction required a novel transformation of Polbank from a branch of EFG into a stand-alone bank, and the development of a complex cross-shareholding structure.
“We welcome the opportunity to once again work with Steve. We recognize his many contributions to the European marketplace, particularly in Poland as well as in London,” said Jaroslaw Grzesiak, the managing partner of Greenberg Traurig's Warsaw office.
Horvath earned his B.S. degree with honors in Chemistry from Northern Illinois University in 1981 and a J.D. from William and Mary School of Law in 1984. At William and Mary, he was a member of the Law Review and Order of the Coif. Following graduation, he clerked for Judge John D. Butzner, Jr. at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. He previously practiced with Hunton & Williams LLP, relocating to Europe in 1996, and finally serving as the managing partner of its London office. Horvath then joined Dewey in 2002. He is admitted to practice in New York and Virginia and is a Registered Foreign Lawyer in England and Wales.
Greenberg Traurig’s Corporate & Securities Practice is comprised of more than 350 lawyers in more than 30 offices. The group provides advice and services to public and privately held companies and entrepreneurs throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. The team brings together the strategic business, legal and market experience needed to manage and close the most complex transactions and provides practical counsel on day-to-day operations.
