LULAC Members Meet with President Obama Concerning Open Enrollment for Affordable Care Act
Washington, DC (PRWEB) October 01, 2013 -- During the next six months, individuals will be able to enroll in the insurance marketplace and choose a health care plan that best suits their needs. Today, two LULAC members, Oscar Renderos and his daughter, Cintya Renderos, met with the President to share their experiences on how having access to quality health care will change their lives.
“LULAC members Oscar and Cintya Renderos are perfect examples of why the Affordable Care Act is important to our community and why Congress needs to stop playing political games with the lives of real people,” said LULAC National President Margaret Moran. “Despite the government shut down today, LULAC members from across the country are working within their communities to help individuals sign up for quality affordable health care. The Affordable Care Act provides an unprecedented opportunity for 10.2 million uninsured Americans to buy health care insurance at a price they can afford.”
In their meeting with the President, Oscar Renderos discussed how not having health care insurance was a huge source of stress for him and his family. Given that Oscar was not covered though his employer, and could not afford private insurance, he feared getting sick and not being able to afford the high medical costs. The fear of being one illness away from losing everything is a reality that millions of hard working Americans face every day.
Today, as a result of the Affordable Care Act, Oscar Renderos is optimistic about his future and feels grateful that he and his family will have the opportunity to purchase health care insurance through the Marketplace. His daughter Cintya, also a LULAC member, will help her father and other members of the community with the enrollment process.
Data released by HHS last week shows that consumers will be able to choose from an average of 53 health plans in the Federally-facilitated Marketplace. Premiums nationwide will also be around 16 percent lower than originally expected.
