Interdean Explores Growing Use of the English Language
(PRWEB UK) 10 October 2013 -- It has been reported in Expat Forum that as many as 1.75 billion people worldwide are currently using the English language, with this figure expected to rise to 2 billion by 2020. The report, which was carried out by the British Council also highlights the fact that there are considerably more non-native speakers than native speakers across the globe. The study recognised the thousands of students who come to the UK each year to study English, contributing £2 billion a year to local and regional economies.
Director of English and Examinations, Mark Robson stated that “English makes a significant contribution to sustainable global development. It eases trade between countries that do not share a common language.”
Offering international removals services to thousands of UK expats every year, Interdean understand the challenges that face those who make the decision to live in a new country. A representative from the firm explains how understanding the local language can break down the communication barrier that some expats face when moving overseas:
“Knowing that as much as a quarter of the world’s population can speak English to a useful degree should be encouraging for those planning to leave the UK. The smallest task can seem overwhelming when you are in a foreign country, so knowing that a growing number of people around the world speak the English language should be a comfort. However, wherever you’re planning on moving to, it is still advisable to try and grasp a basic understanding of your local language before you travel.”
