Sunbelt Bakery Launches Social Media Campaign to Raise Funds for National Breast Cancer Foundation
Collegedale, Tenn. (PRWEB) October 04, 2013 -- October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Sunbelt® Bakery is proud to announce the launch of a special social media campaign that will raise funds to benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.® (NBCF) and its mission to save lives through early detection and to provide free mammograms for those in need. Starting today, Sunbelt Bakery will support NBCF by donating $1 for every new Facebook® “Like” and Twitter® “Follower” the company receives during the month of October, up to $50,000.
“Everyone knows someone whose life has been affected by breast cancer,” said Jeff Badger, brand manager for Sunbelt Bakery. “As a family-owned bakery that values personal health and wellness, we strive to support organizations that are making a true difference in the lives of our mothers, sisters, daughters, co-workers and customers. This is why we proudly support NBCF and their efforts to fight breast cancer by providing free mammograms to those who need it the most and ensuring women in all 50 states have access to early detection resources.”
This will be Sunbelt Bakery’s fourth consecutive year to support NBCF. Unlike previous years, Sunbelt Bakery will expand the social media campaign this year to include Facebook and Twitter users, meaning the company will now donate $1 to NBCF for every new Facebook “Like” or Twitter “Follower” the company receives during the next 30 days, up to $50,000.
“The National Breast Cancer Foundation is truly excited about continuing its partnership with Sunbelt Bakery because they understand how the early detection of breast cancer plays a critical role in saving lives,” said Janelle Hail, founder and chief executive officer of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. “With this generous donation, Sunbelt Bakery will help NBCF provide additional mammograms at no cost to women living in underserved areas and expand the availability of needed resources that can help women detect breast cancer early.”
According to American Cancer Society, more than 232,000 women in America will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and more than 39,600 will die from the disease. In fact, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Breast cancer also affects men as more than 2,200 men in America are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, of which more than 400 of them will die from the disease.
The early detection of breast cancer saves thousands of lives each year. If detected early (in the localized stage), the five-year survival rate exceeds 99 percent, according to the American Cancer Society. Unfortunately, a recent study from the American Cancer Society shows approximately 66.5 percent of women 40 years of age and older reported getting a mammogram in the past two years.
Badger continued, “Breast cancer has directly affected my family just like it has affected many of our consumers, employees and distributors. Early detection is the key to the successful treatment of breast cancer. This is why I’m encouraging everyone to visit our Facebook and Twitter pages and make one click to help raise money for an important cause that is making a difference in the lives of women throughout our country.”
According to company officials, Sunbelt Bakery has raised more than $300,000 to support various breast cancer awareness initiatives and research efforts to find a cure.
