Baseball Tickets Pop as Post Season Powers Up

After a grueling 162-game regular season, it’s time for the `do-or-die’ post season and MLB Baseball fans appear to be totally electrified. Based on tracking data provided by, ticket sales are surging for the Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, Oakland Athletics and Detroit Tigers.

It’s playoff time in major league baseball. That means fanatical fans and sold out venues for eight out of the sport's 30 teams, with a shot at this season’s coveted World Series crown.

In the American League Division Series or ALDS, it’s the Tampa Bay Rays versus the Boston Red Sox and the Oakland Athletics versus the Detroit Tigers. In the National League Division Series or NLDS, it’s the Pittsburgh Pirates versus the St. Louis Cardinals and the Los Angeles Dodgers versus the Atlanta Braves.

Both NL Division Series games began yesterday, with the St. Louis Cardinals hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Atlanta Braves hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers last night. Results were not posted before press time.

The first full slate of Division Series games, featuring the two AL Division Series openers and a pair of NLDS Game Two’s, will take place today, Friday, October 4. The Division Series runs to October 10, 2013.

The two winners in each Division series will then play each other in the Division Championship Series, also known as the ALCS and NLCS, for a World Series Berth.

Game 1 of the 109th World Series is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23, in the ballpark of the American League champions, by virtue of that league's victory in the All-Star Game. Game 3 of the Fall Classic will shift to the city of the NL champs on Saturday, October 26.

The scheduled off-days during the World Series are Friday, October 25, and Tuesday, October 29. A Game 7, if necessary, would be played on Thursday, October 31 – the night of Halloween – in the AL city.

This year, the NL will seek to make it four straight, following championships won by the Giants in 2010, the Cardinals in 2011 and the Giants again last year.
