McNett Donates over $8,000 in Outdoor Gear to Gear Locker of Local Non-Profit That Takes Kids Outside
Bellingham, Washington (PRWEB) October 04, 2013 -- McNett®, the leader in quality, innovative outdoor products, donates over $8,000 of outdoor equipment and gear in an effort to get kids outside. McNett focuses “Take a Kid Outside” efforts on building a gear locker for local non-profit, North Cascade Institute (NCI), for kids attending NCI youth programs. To date, McNett has contributed over $18,000 in outdoor gear to the NCI Gear Locker.
"McNett's support for our programs has been amazing,” says Amy Brown, Youth Leadership Manager at NCI. “Thanks to McNett, we now have more of the gear we need to get our students outside so they can safely enjoy our public lands and learn to appreciate them. Most of our students have never had the chance to camp, hike and canoe before, so helping them comfortably experience the outdoors is critical. McNett's support is helping us to create the next generation of engaged citizens and conservation leaders. Thank you, McNett!"
McNett, its community, and partners contributed to the donation, with employees helping reach the final goal. As a reward, Travis Huisman and David Wiggs, CEO and VP marketing respectively, agreed to a one-way water balloon fight with the employees. Guess who was throwing the water balloons?
“We are proud of our employees for getting involved and contributing to such a great cause,” says David Wiggs, VP marketing. “NCI shares our passion for the outdoors and they are fully committed to the next generation, making them a natural partner for us. And yes, I would agree to a one-way water balloon fight again in support of getting more kids outdoors.”
In 2013, McNett's contribution helped more than 75 students study climate change and ecology, install bear boxes in the Baker Lake backcountry, learn how to canoe, backpack and camp, maintain more than 12 miles of trail, practice public speaking about conservation issues and install five fire rings and eight tent pads.
“This program has immense power to change kids’ lives, all for the better,” says Nick A, NCI attendee. “I learned so many life skills…. it’s really given me a chance to find myself. I can honestly say this has been the best decision of my life.”
