The MarketCounsel Summit is scheduled for December 10 – 13, 2013 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Summit kicks off with a rare chance for attendees to personally interact with the keynote speakers during the opening reception. The next morning Senator Dodd and Representative Frank will address their landmark legislation in the day’s first session “What Were They Thinking: The Architects of Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.”
Immediately following, a panel led by Brian Hamburger of MarketCounsel which includes Ron Rhoades of ScholarFi, Skip Schweiss of TD Ameritrade Trust Company and David Tittsworth of the Investment Adviser Association will discuss current and future investment adviser regulatory initiatives including harmonization and the likelihood of a self-regulatory organization.
Always a popular speaker, industry luminary Mark Tibergien, chief executive officer of Pershing Advisor Solutions will then share valuable insights investment advisers can improve their practice.
Next will be a high-impact back-to-back series of two respected investors in the industry. Todd Thomson of Dynasty Financial Partners and Chip Mahan of Live Oak Bank will each give a TED-style presentation about their approaches to the independent investment adviser industry and the most critical things advisers can do to make themselves more attractive to serious investors.
Day 1 concludes with two sessions made up of some of the country’s top investment advisers who will share their insights and experiences. First is a panel of advisers that have created leading “tuck-in” models and “join” opportunities in order to take advantage of new trends in advisers joining other, more established independent investment advisers. The panel will include Marty Bicknell of Mariner Wealth Advisors, Neal Simon of Highline Wealth Management and John Burns of Exencial Wealth Advisors.
The final session of the first day of the Summit will be a panel of investment advisers that have successfully implemented succession plans to ensure an orderly transfer of their business interests and ensure the success and longevity of the company that they have worked so hard to create. Corey Kupfer of the Hamburger Law Firm will moderate a panel of Greg Friedman of Private Ocean, Russ Hill of Halbert Hargrove Global Advisors, David McKinley of McKinley Carter Wealth Services and Michele Barbiere of Placemark Investments.
Day 2 of the Summit begins with Sterling Shea of Barron’s moderating an impressive panel of advisers from Barron’s: Top 100 Independent Wealth Advisors. Lori Van Dusen of LVW Advisors, Grant Rawdin of Wescott Financial Advisory Group, and Ron Carson of Carson Wealth Management Group will discuss the most significant factors that have contributed to their success and how they overcame their most significant challenges along the way.
The final general session for Day 2 will help advisers learn how to build an efficient practice by leveraging technology. Rohit Mahna of Salesforce, David Welling of Black Diamond, and James Carney of ByAllAccounts will make up a panel representing some of the best solutions in adviser technology to help attendees understand what tools are available and how to best implement them as well as what developments lie ahead.
Each night includes lively networking events, such as the popular “Live Auction to Benefit the MarketCounsel Foundation” on December 12. There will be a myriad of items to bid on ranging from golf outings to a week in a Tuscan farmhouse, all for the good cause of supporting the independent investment adviser movement.
MarketCounsel will be announcing the remainder of the agenda, including workshops and breakout sessions geared either towards executives and operations/compliance staff over the next couple of weeks.
