PDS and UNC Health Care will further collaborate on deploying data models for Epic Resolute Professional and Cadence.

Practical Data Solutions, Inc. (PDS) and UNC Health Care will further collaborate on deploying data models for Epic Resolute Professional and Cadence. Previously, PDS has worked with UNC Health Care to deliver and customize data models for GE Centricity and Allscripts Enterprise. As UNC transitions to Epic, they will have analytical and reporting capabilities that extend across the GE, Allscripts and Epic data sets.

“We have had a tremendous relationship with PDS and view their expertise in data modeling as a critical driver to an effective performance management strategy,” according to Matthew Castellano, IT Director, Business & Revenue Cycle Systems. “The Epic rollout doesn’t just happen overnight, and as we work down the GE and Allscripts systems, it’s imperative for us to measure and manage revenue cycle and patient access throughout the transition,” says Robin Thompson, Vice President of Revenue Cycle and Business Operations.

The PDS data marts are used in conjunction with UNC Health Care’s Enterprise Data Warehouse and business intelligence standards. Data marts for GE Centricity, Allscripts Enterprise and Epic share a common data model structure, and key performance metrics and dimensions enable an apples-to-apples perspective across systems.

“We credit the success of our six-year partnership with UNC to their leadership team and ability to clearly articulate a strategy of using data to achieve performance improvement,” says Russell Hendrickson, President of PDS. “UNC always defines the business need first , and PDS puts forth recommendations on the approach options – it’s this mutual reliability that builds consensus and best practices into an effective partnership,” according to Hendrickson.
