HybridChart Provides Secure Messaging System as HIPAA Begins Enforcing Regulations
PHOENIX (PRWEB) October 09, 2013 -- Medsoft (http://gomedsoft.com), a Phoenix-based distributor of medical software, is pleased to announce its cost-saving hospital rounding software HybridChart is completely HIPAA compliant and provides a secure messaging system for new and existing clients. The latest version has been implemented in time for the HIPAA Omnibus Rule of 2013, which began being enforced on September 23.
“As of Monday the 23rd, physicians could no longer communicate with their staff through traditional text message, pager or email because these communication platforms are not secure,” explains Dr. Gregory P. Sanders, M.D. and creator of HybridChart. “The question then becomes how can physicians communicate critical patient information with their teams – as it is impractical to communicate everything in person or over the phone.”

Although the HIPAA Omnibus Rule of 2013 – which includes specific regulations on the sharing of patient information – went into effect last March, HIPAA-covered entities weren’t required to be compliant until August 23. Nationally, the new regulations have spurned physicians and medical practices to reevaluate their communication capabilities and seek secure messaging platforms such as TigerText to try and protect patient information while effectively running their business. But is the best approach to incorporate an entirely new system?
“Instead of paying for an expensive new messaging system that likely won’t integrate with your existing rounding software, why not upgrade to a comprehensive hospital rounding solution that has the HIPAA-compliant messaging platform built in,” suggests Christian Burris, Medosft CEO. “Now is the time to reconsider an entire rounding solution such as HybridChart, that in most situations will be less expensive that a new messaging platform alone.”
HybridChart Automatic Upgrades
For existing HybridChart clients, September 23 wasn’t an issue. Instead, their existing communication platform was turned off and replaced with a HIPAA-compliant, secure messaging platform. From a usability standpoint, the systems are identical, and current clients won’t suffer from downtime trying to learn a new system. Additionally, there weren’t any fees for the major upgrades made to HybridChart that week. Medsoft policy is to include all new versions and upgrades for free to existing customers – including HybridChart users.
“That’s just our business model,” explains Burris. “As a physician, you have enough to worry about without being nickel and dimed every time technology changes. It is our job to ensure our product continues to evolve and meet client’s needs and we don’t feel they should pay for those necessary upgrades.”
Medsoft and HybridChart were also adamant the new HIPAA-compliant solution be “baked-in” so clients weren’t forced to navigate back and forth between two incompatible systems. Instead, business operations continues to be easier for HybridChart clients that originally chose the innovative charge capture solution to save money while improving workflow.
“I appreciate business processes that are streamlined so I can focus on my patients and their needs," shared Dr. Sanders. “As practicing medicine becomes more cumbersome, I am confident HybridChart will deliver the seamless and secure rounding solution that so many of my colleagues are looking for.”
Unlike other hospital charge capture solutions, HybridChart was created by a practicing cardiologist that understands first-hand the frustrations of rounding and how difficult it is to accurately capture and communicate rounding efforts back to his billing team. It has been embraced by healthcare groups across the nation for its ability to capture missed charges, seamlessly integrate with HL7-compliant EMR systems and increase secure communication between physicians and billing teams. Additionally its intuitive interface allows for simple training and a phased implementation to minimize operational downtime.
