Around 1:30 a.m. on September 19th, an alarm monitoring operator at Sonitrol Pacific’s Verification Center received a security audio activation from a Southeast Portland diner. According to the Fox 12 Oregon report on September 19th, the intruder, William O’Donnell, was arrested and booked for burglary, criminal mischief, and theft.

After receiving an alarm from the front door and hearing clattering on the audio system, the Verification Center dispatched Portland Police and alerted the business’s emergency contact. The police arrived quickly and surrounded the diner. According to the Fox 12 report, a police dog chased O’Donnell out the back door, where he was apprehended by law enforcement. After inspecting the crime scene, it appears the intruder entered by prying open the kitchen window. Fortunately the police arrived before he could take anything or cause any major damage to the restaurant.

Sonitrol Pacific offers restaurant specific security solutions that protect buildings, employees, and patrons. Restaurants choose Sonitrol Pacific due to 30 years of industry experience with state-of-the-art audio verification and silent alarm electronic security systems.

Sonitrol Pacific uses silent alarms, activated by audio impact sensors, because they are most effective for apprehending suspects. Rather than an alarm bell sounding and scaring the burglar off, silent alarms notify operators so they can verify an intrusion and dispatch law enforcement at a high priority when necessary. At Sonitrol Pacific, we strive to keep burglars off the streets, rather than simply scaring them away on a given night.

As shown in the attempted burglary in Portland, silent alarms can prevent theft, improve restaurant security, and increase the odds of apprehending intruders.
