Bishop Caggiano Accepts Role As New Episcopal Advisor For NFCYM
Washington D.C. (PRWEB) October 11, 2013 -- The National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry is pleased to announce that Bishop Frank J. Caggiano has accepted their invitation to serve as Episcopal Advisor. Following his acceptance, NFCYM’s executive director, Dr. Robert McCarty expressed hope and delight, “Bishop Caggiano has a heart for the young church and has been a strong advocate for lay ecclesial ministry. NFCYM and the field of Catholic youth ministry will certainly be blessed by his participation and his leadership.”
Pope Francis recently appointed Bishop Caggiano as fifth bishop of Bridgeport. In his opening address at a July 31 press conference, following the announcement of his new appointment, Bishop Caggiano expressed his enthusiasm and passion for the young church, “I turn my mind and heart in a special way to our young people. Having recently returned from Rio de Janeiro after attending the historic gathering of youth with our Holy Father, I am filled with a renewed sense of hope and excitement that the church is alive in the hearts of our young people. Many stand ready to share their enthusiasm, energy and joy with the entire church. To the young people of this diocese and to all young people who may be wondering about the direction of their lives, I will do whatever I can to serve you and walk with you in your journey of faith.” Cindee Case of the Diocese of Youngstown, commented as chairperson, on behalf of the board of directors, “The NFCYM is greatly honored to have Bishop Caggiano join our work on behalf of Catholic youth ministry.”
The role of the Episcopal Advisor is a three-year term, beginning November 2013. Bishop Caggiano will serve as a member of the NFCYM Board of Directors as well as serve ex-officio on the board of the Catholic Youth Foundation USA, a service center of the NFCYM. His responsibility will be to alert, advise, and communicate information on issues and concerns of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops and the larger church, as well as serve as a liaison and advocate on behalf of the NFCYM to the USCCB.
Bishop Caggiano will have an opportunity to address 24,000 youth, youth leaders, clergy, and other brother bishops at the National Catholic Youth Conference held in Indianapolis November 21-23 at Lucas Oil Stadium. (http://www.ncyc.info ) In addition, he will be invited to speak at the National Conference on Catholic Youth Ministry which will be held in San Antonio, TX, December 4-6, 2014. This conference gathers diocesan directors and youth ministry leaders from all throughout the U.S.
