Major International airlines on average delivered 81.49% of their flights to the arrival gate within 15 minutes of schedule in September, up almost 3% from August. Nearly 10% of major international flights were delayed longer than 30 minutes. Four major international carriers: (AY) Finnair, (GF) Gulf Air, (SA) South African Airways, and (VO) Tyrolean Airways, delivered over 90% of their flights on time.

On average, North American airlines delivered 84% of their flights to the arrival gate within 15 minutes of schedule, compared to 78.39% in August. (HA) Hawaiian maintained the top spot in North America with 94.66%, while (DL) Delta led the majors for the first time in 2013 with an impressive 89.32% on-time performance.

The on-time performance for the European airlines was 84.46% down from from August’s 85.64%. (U2) EasyJet led the major carriers with an notable 89.72% on-time performance rating, (IB) Iberia followed closely with 89.31%. In September, only 30% of airlines evaluated exceeded a 90% on-time performance. Cancellations for the group were up slightly at .53% from August’s .42%.

The average on-time performance rating among the Asian airlines we analyzed was 73.65% up significantly from August’s 65.61%. This is likely a result of several Chinese carries improving their on-time performance, including (CZ) China Southern, (MU) China Eastern, (CA) Air China, and (HU) Hainan Airlines. Cancellations for the group remained relatively consistent at 1.97%. (BX) Air Busan was ranked number one among Asian airlines with an on-time performance of 96.23%, leading the majors carriers was (JL) Japan Airlines.

(MSP) Minneapolis posted an on-time performance rating of 89.75% in September, ousting (HND) Tokyo's Haneda (89.57%) for the top spot among the world’s busiest airports. The average on-time departure performance among the top international airports was 78.45% up almost 5% from August. (PEK) Beijing canceled 2.23% of flights, down from 4.47% in August, while (SIN) Singapore stays above 5% for three months in a row, posting 6.06% for September.

The average on-time departure performance for the North American airports was 84.12% up significantly from August’s 77.81%. (HNL) Honolulu took the top spot with 92.10% on-time departure performance in September, with (SLC) Salt Lake City and (MSP) Minneapolis following closely. Cancellations for the group to decreased to .91% compared to .99% in August, 1.79% in July and 1.96% in June.

The average on-time departure performance for the group was 72.31%, up slightly from August’s 71.86%, but still low compared to May’s 76.24%. Cancelations for the group were .64%, (VKO) Moscow remaining significantly higher than others.

Overall, the on-time performance of Asian airports increased to 58.55% in September, almost matching its March 2013 performance. (ITM) Osaka International Airport remains the leader of Asian airports with 93.04% on-time departure performance in September A majority of the Chinese airports improved significantly over the last 30 days, including (PEK) Beijing and (PVG) Shanghai. 22.71% of flights were delayed 30 minutes or longer, which was an improvement from 30% in August. Cancellations for the group were at 2.25% up slightly from 2.07% in August.
