The Landis Group and Steven Winter Associates Inc. are pleased to announce that the Southern Connecticut Chapter of the Building Owners and Managers Association International (BOMA) has selected 400 Atlantic Street as the “Earth Building of the Year”. The building was also named BOMA’s “The Office Building of the Year” (TOBY) for 2012.

Earlier this year, 400 Atlantic was awarded LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification under the U.S. Green Building’s Council for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance™ (LEED-EBOM). 400 Atlantic Street has also previously achieved the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR® recognition.

Partnering with The Landis Group’s in-house engineering staff and Southport Engineering, a Connecticut-based design and consulting firm, the Steven Winter Associates team worked to implement building features at 400 Atlantic Street that demonstrated a commitment to the preservation of healthy indoor and outdoor environments.

Enhancements focused on improving water efficiency, energy usage, materials purchased, solid waste management, and alternative transportation methods. 400 Atlantic also strictly adheres to green cleaning methods, using practices and products with environmentally friendly ingredients designed to preserve human health and environmental quality. Low-VOC building materials and integrated pest management were also used for both the exterior and interior of the building.

LEED certification distinguishes structures that decrease operating costs, reduce waste sent to landfills, conserve energy and water, reduce harmful green house gas emissions and, in turn, qualify for tax rebates and other incentives.

The Earth Building of the Year Award was presented to 400 Atlantic Street on October 3, 2013 at the Annual TOBY and Best of the Best Awards Dinner in Darien, CT.

400 Atlantic Street is a 15-story, 500,000-square-foot Class A office building that was originally conceived and constructed as Champion Paper's world headquarters. The building is highlighted by a dramatic lobby entrance and public spaces, expansive 37,000-square-foot highly flexible floor plates, elegant interior staircases and sweeping views of Long Island Sound. Recent tenants who have signed leases to occupy space include Northwestern Mutual and Charter Communications.
