Printers May Soon Create Living Human Organs
(PRWEB) October 08, 2013 -- Medical technology is now advancing at such a breathtaking pace that new technologies can seem like visions from a distant future. Consider a machine, a humble printer, that is able to create living human organs, cell by cell. Even the scientists working on the project acknowledge that it sounds like something lifted out of the pages of a science-fiction novel.
"The technology is already in place to print living human tissue," said First Class Posting. "Dr. Forgacs estimates that the ability to print entire organs directly into human bodies will occur during our lifetimes."
"The Methuselah Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports and encourages scientific research to extend healthy human life, thinks that organ regeneration may happen very soon — within a dozen years. The Foundation recently announced a NewOrgan Prize to be awarded to scientists who successfully duplicate and transplant a fully-functioning organ made from a patient’s own cells by the year 2025."
