Costa Rica International Film Festival 2013 “Peace with Earth”; Costa Rica Will Be Home to the World's Best Cinema
(PRWEB) October 10, 2013 -- Presenting 140 films from different parts of the World, the Costa Rica International Film Festival 2013 “Peace with Earth” (CRFIC 2013), will take place the next October 11th to the 19th in the capital San José.
The Fest is an initiative promoted by the Youth and Culture Ministry and the Costarrican Center of Cinematographic Production (Film Center) of Costa Rica and it is on its second edition.
The first edition was held in 2012 with the participation of personalities such as the acclaimed spanish director Fernando Trueba and Iván Trujillo, director of the Guadalajara International Film Festival.
For this occasion, the guest of honor country of the Fest is Argentina, who's films are matter of study and cinematographic reference, thanks to its prolific industry, parameter for the creation, promotion and evolution of film.
As a tribute to this cinematographic patrimony there will be a retrospective of Argentinian films presented by some of their directors, who will be meeting with the audience to share their experience about the cinematographic creation.
The opening of the Festival will take place on Friday October 11th at the Melico Salazar Popular Theater, with the screening of the Argentinian film "Tesis sobre un homicidio", from the prominent director Hernán Goldfrid.
The Jury of the Festival this year will be comprised of well-known figures of the international cinematographic scene. Carlos Sorín (Argentina), Michelle Maheux for the International Fiction category. Besides, Patricia Howell (Costa Rica), Gerardo Tort (Mexico) and Agustín Fornari (Argentina/Chile) will give their veredict about the films competing in the International Documentary category; and finally Leo Gavina (Brasil), Patricia Carrillo (Mexico) and Pedro Zurita (Chile/USA) will be judging the National category.
The jury will make the winners public on Saturday October 19th during an award show, where the "Jaguar" award will be issued, a statuette inspired by the indigenous metates (grinding stones), put together on native autochthonous communities.
Gravity pre-opening the Festival
As a prologue, the movie "Gravity" of the acclaimed Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón, will be screened on Thursday October 10th at the Magaly venue, at 8pm. Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, opened the 70th edition of the Venice Film Festival during last August, and this is the second time it will be presented on a Festival background.
The Festival has invited 100 personalities, local and international, amongst them movie makers, producers, actors and actresses. They will also be participating in talks, meetings and workshops with students and the general public.
As in 2012, the Festival features the curation of Nicole Guillemet, who was vicepresident and codirector of the Sundance Film Festival for more than 15 years. Under her guidance, this Festival became an important showcase for independent films on a global level.
The Costa Rica International Film Festival 2013 "Peace with Earth", will also present a variety of shows from performing arts to musical events, with international music groups such as the Mexican Carla Morrison, the Guatemalan group La Miseria Cumbia Band, as well as important national bands like 424, Son de Tikizia and Editus 360.
