University of London Computer Centre (ULCC) and Custodian DC announce partnership
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 10 October 2013 -- The University of London Computer Centre (ULCC), the leading IT service provider to the UK education sector, and Custodian DC, winner of the 'Green Data Centre' at the Data Centre Leaders Awards, today announced a new strategic partnership.
As part of the agreement, ULCC will be utilising Custodian DC's state-of-the-art facilities as a second site from which to provide its existing data centre services and has negotiated competitive rates on behalf of its 300+ UK education customers and the wider education community. The new site will also further enhance ULCC’s disaster recovery and High Performance Computing (HPC) capabilities. In addition, a 1Gb Janet link is currently being installed at Custodian's Maidstone site to provide high quality and affordable connectivity for ULCC’s academic customer base.
"Finding a Data Centre capable of hosting High Performance Computing (HPC), at a competitive price, is a challenge for many Academic Institutions. We believe the partnership between ULCC & Custodian DC will allow for the implementation of HPC projects to be a smooth and painless process. Securing our first HPC contract with City University within days of signing the partnership agreement with Custodian shows that we are addressing a need within the UK education sector," said Steve Knibbs, Head of Infrastructure Services at ULCC.

City needed a location for an HPC rack and our own efforts to find a location in London proved unaffordable. The Custodian DC site however offers us an excellent facility with good transport connections and competitive pricing."
ULCC and Custodian DC will be exhibiting and presenting at the 24th Daresbury Machine Evaluation Workshop (MEW24) in Liverpool on the 27-28th November 2013, the leading national event dedicated to high performance scientific computing.
