Washington, DC (PRWEB) October 09, 2013

Leading electronic signature provider, Silanis Technology, today announced at the Smart Card Alliance’s 12th Annual Government Conference that the company will offer secure e-signing in the field with an iPad. Using Silanis’ standalone e-signature app in conjunction with Thursby Software’s PKard Reader®, this new capability will allow government users to complete business transactions faster without the need to access a laptop computer or print documents to paper.

How it works

On an iPad, a user securely accesses documents within their email using their CAC or PIV card with Thursby’s PKard Reader. To electronically sign the necessary documents, the user launches the Silanis e-signature app. This replaces the current process, which requires a user to access documents via their laptop computer and sign the document with the client side Silanis e-Sign Desktop application and a CAC or PIV card, or alternatively print out the documents, wet sign and then scan the documents for archiving and storage.

The Silanis e-signature app leverages existing infrastructure and processes, supporting both personal devices (BYOD) and government furnished equipment (GFE), either standalone, or as part of wider third party mobile app store, mobile app or device management initiatives (MAS, MAM or MDM).

Benefits to users

While access security and permissions are the primary application for CAC and PIV smart cards, there are other applications that run on authentication credentials. E-Signatures are a proven, high-value application that leverages both digital credentials and mobile devices to accelerate decisions, while also providing even stronger security for remote e-government processes.

The Silanis e-signature app combined with Thursby’s PKard Reader allows field-deployed government users to securely access documents and take immediate take an immediate decision. This helps keep government business processes moving while freeing users from delaying their decision until they have access to their desktop, laptop or Blackberries to move business forward effectively.

“Government employees at all levels are looking for enhanced mobility capabilities. The added efficiencies are significant especially to organizations like the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the US Army and other government departments, which are already enabling e-signing in the field using Silanis e-signatures,” said Silanis Technology CEO and co-founder Tommy Petrogiannis.
